The Lower Mekong supports more than 1,300 fish species, about 21% of which are migratory. These migratory species account for roughly 70% of the region’s fish catch, and 35% of them are under threat.
The study identifies where migratory species are most vulnerable and recommends improving knowledge of migration pathways, addressing development pressures, enhancing both biodiversity and fishery yields, and promoting transboundary cooperation.
